Our classes are part-time to allow time for the students to pursue projects, interests, and study outside the school and to allow the parents to remain their primary mentors. The student will be enrolled in one of our three mixed-ages classes, which will be determined primarily by age group, but also by learning stage. This is determined through collaboration with the student, parents, and Knox Academy to find the right placement for the student’s optimal growth.

Other Events

Family Fun Night: These will be held once a month on the First Fridays. Examples of what we will be doing are dances, game nights, service projects, etc.

Field trips: There will be opportunities to go out in the community to further the student’s study of a topic they are learning about. These may require additional costs and transportation, and so they are optional for all students.

Humanitarian week/MEXICO: We believe serving in our a community is a wonderful opportunity for the students’ growth and enhanced perspective of the world around them. During one week in February, the Scholar students and their families have an opportunity to go to Mexico for a humanitarian project. Our coordinator, Renae Southworth, lived in the small community in Baja Mexico. For students not participating in the Mexico project, there will also be an opportunity for a local humanitarian project. For both, the students will be working on their projects at the school beforehand.

Mini Class/Clubs: There will be opportunities throughout the year to participate in mini classes (during school hours) and also clubs (after school hours/may have additional costs).

Parent Collaboration Night

Held the fourth Thursday of every month from 7:00 – 8:30pm (see our School Calendar for specific dates.) Our Parent Collaboration Nights were created to coordinate between Knox Academy staff and parents. This often includes humanitarian trip planning, research on important topics in learning, coordination of student projects, and parent committee planning. Parents who attend will see what their student(s) are doing and will learn about opportunities for how to be involved.
